| Architectural Iron Company's restoration of the entrance gates of Washington, D.C.'s oldest cemetary - Rock Creek Cemetery - represents an interesting combination of cast iron and wrought iron on a massive scale.
The project is magnified by the fact that in addition to the main entrance - with four massive cast iron posts (partially hidden by foliage), there is an equally impressive rear entrance, which closely mirrors the first.
As a part of the restoration process, the massive archway is the test fit in our Milford, PA shops. The top of the arch is actually higher than the yellow bridge crane shown, so we brought in one of our Mack truck mounted cranes (in white) to achieve the necessary height.
An overall view of the massive gateposts and arch. The gates themselves are not shown in this photo. |
